Waving at the Queen

by Barbara Evans

I was living in London in 1942 and my parents and I sometime in the summer of 1942 went to Windsor and walked through the Great Park from the castle to Virginia Water.

As we walked down the Long Walk, we heard a car coming. We were surprised as cars weren't allowed down the Long Walk.

We got to the side and looked at the car. It was being driven by King George VI, Queen Elizabeth beside him and the two princesses, Elizabeth and Margaret, in the back. We waved , they waved back.

There was no police escort, just a family out for a drive.

Happy days, wartime or no.

Meeting the Queen

by Gail in NZ

When I was about 10 my parents had a display at the Ideal Home Exhibition,
and I was allowed to wander the displays as I liked.
One day the Queen, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret all made a
visit. I was right in the passageway as they walked along and as they
passed I made the deepest curtsey I could manage (none of this bob of the
head in those days).
Naturally I lost balance and the Queen reached out and held me up, and they
all stopped and spoke to me.
I rushed back to my parents and told them - but I was credited with an
overvivid imagination until one of their friends corroborated my tale.
